Social Media - FINAL: Creating ePub Files

What is ePub?

ePub is an electronic book format that has become the industry standard, allowing files that use this format to be read on a wide variety of eReaders such as the iPad or Kindle. Pages ’09 lets you export your documents in ePub format for reading with iBooks on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Activity: You are going to be creating your own "book" to be added to the iBooks shelf on the iPad! So . . . begin by creating a Pages files using the Term Paper template (located under Reports). Your document should be 3-4 pages in length and include information about a trip you have taken or would like to take, your family and/or friends, hobbies or choose another topic of interest to you.

Activity #2: When you are finished with your document, export your file using the ePub export option. Email this file to your email address. Finally, access your email on an iPad, open your attachment using iBooks and guess what--you have published your first "book". Open your book from the bookshelf and have fun reading it!

Social Media Day #27 - Animating with Stykz

Frame-based Animating Done Right

  • Stykz is frame-based, letting you work on individual frames of your animation to make it just right. Onionskins let you see what was in the previous frame so you can make adjustments to your current frame easily.
  • New frames can be created by clicking on the "Next Frame" button in the Frames palette, or by simply hitting the Enter key... in fact, you can use the Enter key while you're manipulating a figure! It's kind of like taking snapshots of the current frame while you're moving or pivoting segments... this feature makes it very easy to get smooth animation.

Activity:

  • Create a frame-based animation using Stykz. Be creative! Export your final animation to be posted on your blog!

Social Media - Day #25 Using Prezi

Today you will be utilizing Prezi to create a presentation. Remember that you have utilized Prezi earlier in the semester. It is a very cool web app that allows you to create presentations with a cool twist. Literally. You create a single "page" with multiple pieces of info that you can guide your user to. Prezi is a neat way to show information when you want a change of pace from the standard presentation software. (If you have forgotten how to utilize Prezi, take a quick look at the "Learn" tab.)

Activity: You will be creating a Prezi about a Web 2.0 Tool! You are to create a digital presentation portraying information about a Web 2.0 Tool that you have researched and feel would be important for students to learn about.

You wil need to search for the following media elements to include in your Prezi:
• Video tutorial about your Web 2.0 tool (TeacherTube or YouTube)
• Explanation of the Web 2.0 Tool, tips on using this Tool, etc.
• Examples of the Web 2.0 Tool in use (pictures, etc.)

Be creative and have fun using Prezi!
A great website to explore different tools is EduTecher.net!

Social Media - Day #23 Storybird

"Storybirds" are short, art-inspired stories you make to share, read, and print. It is a fun, collaborative, storytelling website. Users choose from art hosted on the site and build a story around those images that can then be shared with family and friends. The final product can be printed, watched on screen, or shared.

Activity: Find the lyrics to a favorite song or lines to a poem (remember to give credit to the artist/poet). Design a book using the artwork provided. Share your creation!
